Magnanimus Trio have already counted 15 years of presence and creative activity in the music scene of Greece and abroad. Their distinctive formation as an extended piano trio—with Dimitris switching from drums to piano and Christos from piano to ney—along with their broad compositional and improvisational abilities, places them among the Greek ensembles that defy stereotypes while creating melodic narratives that resonate with a wide audience.

The members of the trio have been making music together for over 25 years (having first met as fellow students at the Aristotle University), and they share a unique chemistry that is evident in every performance. They have appeared in concerts across Greece, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, and Germany.

In this new collaboration with MOYSA, the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, and with their new — fourth — album currently in the works, they will present at the Concert Hall’s Plaza new compositions as well as improvisations together with members of the orchestra.

Οι Magnanimus Trio δημιουργήθηκαν στην Θεσσαλονίκη πριν 13 χρόνια και συνεχίζουν να δημιουργούν ετοιμάζοντας τον 4ο τους δίσκο με πρωτότυπη μουσική.

Στο πρώτο τους δίσκο “A Cue” (2010) δίνουν ένα “στοιχείο” της ταυτότητας τους, ηχογραφώντας μια ώρα αυτοσχεδιαζόμενης μουσικής, ισορροπώντας ανάμεσα στον σύγχρονο μινιμαλιστικό ήχο και σε μελωδικά ηχοτοπία που δημιουργούν με προσήλωση. Στον επόμενο τους δίσκο “Still Time” (2012) παρουσιάζουν ένα συνδυασμό πρωτότυπων συνθέσεων και αυτοσχεδιασμών και παραπέμπουν σε κινηματογραφικές ακροάσεις, εισάγοντας στοιχεία τροπικής jazz, συνθέσεις-μινιατούρες και μπαλάντες για φωνές και καβάλ.

Ο τελευταίος τους δίσκος, “Νo Time” (2017/AN Music) είναι ακόμη ένα βήμα παραπέρα στη σκιαγράφηση του οράματός τους για τη μουσική: δεκατρείς πρωτότυπες συνθέσεις όπου μπορεί κανείς να ακούσει ακρίβεια και διαύγεια σε κάθε νότα, χωρίς φλυαρίες, να διακρίνει το στοιχείο της ελευθερίας που προέρχεται από διαφορετικούς κόσμους αυτοσχεδιαζόμενης μουσικής και επίσης δύο τραγούδια: ένα με στίχους δανεισμένους από τον W. Shakespeare και ένα με πρωτότυπους στίχους. Το αποτέλεσμα συνδέει την τροπικότητα της νότιας Ευρώπης με την μουσική της πιο κεντρικής Ευρωπαϊκής σκηνής.

Οι ξεχωριστές συνεργασίες των μουσικών του τρίο περιλαμβάνουν κάποιους από τους καλύτερους μουσικούς της world & jazz μουσικής σκηνής: John Taylor†, Erkan Oğur, Derya Turkan, Murat Aydemir, Ζohar Fresco Quartet, Ross Daly, Σωκράτης Σινόπουλος, Zezo Olimpio, Efrén López, Thomas Strønen, Björn Meyer ανάμεσα σε άλλους.

The first album by Magnanimus Trio, A Cue was recorded back in 2010, when the group first met in Thessaloniki, Greece. It offers a testament to the first steps of the trio’s imaginative, atmospheric and melodic music-making based in deep listening and nearly telepathic interplay. Previously unreleased, it is now available in a new re-mastered edition.

While the two next albums of Magnanimus trio, Still Time (2012) and No Time (2016) contain compositions by the members of the group as well as improvisations, A Cue contains an hour of fully improvised music recorded in an unique recording session by Yannis Mavridis in Cue Productions Studio, that also gave the name to the album. Το πρώτο άλμπουμ των Magnanimus Trio, A Cue, ηχογραφήθηκε το 2010, όταν το γκρουπ πρωτοσυναντήθηκε στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Πρόκειται για μια μαρτυρία από κοντά, στα πρώτα βήματα της δημιουργικής πορείας του τρίο. Οι συνθέσεις δημιουργούνται σε ζωντανό χρόνο, γεμάτες ποιητικότητα, φαντασία και μια ανεξάντλητη ποικιλία υφών, φέροντας στην επιφάνεια ένα κοινό λεξιλόγιο μεταξύ των μουσικών που στηρίζεται στην στενή ακρόαση και την σχεδόν τηλεπαθητική αλληλεπίδραση. Προηγουμένως ακυκλοφόρητο, είναι τώρα διαθέσιμο σε μια νέα re-mastered έκδοση.

Ενώ τα δύο επόμενα άλμπουμ του trio, Still Time (2012) και No Time (2016) περιέχουν συνθέσεις από τα μέλη του γκρουπ καθώς και αυτοσχεδιασμούς, το A Cue περιέχει μια ώρα πλήρως αυτοσχέδιας μουσική, ηχογραφημένη σε ένα μόνο απόγευμα από τον Γιάννη Μαυρίδη στο Cue Productions Studio, απ’ όπου πήρε το όνομα του και ο δίσκος. To A Cue θα είναι διαθέσιμο για ακρόαση και ψηφιακή αγορά στην σελίδα του τρίο στο Bandcamp στις 15 Νοέμβρη:

We are really excited to announce our next concerts in Greece! We will participate in the Music Showcase, organized in Thessaloniki 23-25 of November, at the venue of Archaelogical Museum, as well as in Zoo Jazz Club in Athens on Sunday 2nd of December. We will perform material from our 3d album, “No Time” (2016/AN Music) as well as new material we are working upon, with eyes on our 4th upcoming cd. Stay tuned and we will love to see & hear you on the way!
